Collaboration is not always easy, especially for those outside the decision making agencies.
It is especially frustrating when the desire to participate is strong, but there
are barriers that are hard to understand or explain to others. Collaboration Assessment
for Stakeholders is intended to pinpoint some common areas where miscommunication,
misunderstanding, or infrequent participation has become a barrier for stakeholders.
The Assessment also provides some strategies to help improve collaboration. You may be
surprised by what you learn.
Within the tool you are asked to respond to a series of statements to evaluate certain
aspects of your current interaction with transportation issues. The results of
the assessment will help identify those areas that represent challenges to collaboration,
strategies that you may consider, and recommendations for using the Decision Guide
to identify changes that will support greater collaboration.
You can use the Assessment tool as an individual stakeholder participant or
as an organized advocacy group, as a public involvement specialist or a project manager
hoping to take advantage of strong stakeholder participation. There are many ways in
which the Assessment tool can be used to understand how collaboration can be supported and enhanced.
Statements to the left provide access to general advice without individual assessment.
These can be useful if you want a quick understanding of the individual areas of
assessment or to consider appropriate strategies to a problem already identified.
However, it is highly recommended that you take the full assessment. For most
people the survey will take about 20 minutes. If desired, you can complete only a
portion of the assessment at one time and return to finish later.
Results may be saved and printed.
